Temporary Graduate – Subclass 485 Visa International students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution may avail of this visa. This is a temporary visa and entitles the holder to live, study and work in Australia after you have finished your studies. Contrary to popular belief, this visa isn’t just for university graduates. There are two streams available: 1) Graduates: This stream is for any international student eligible for an occupation listed on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL). A visa in the graduate stream is granted for 18 months and can potentially be used as a pathway to permanent residence. A positive skills assessed with the appropriate authority prior to applying for this visa is necessary. 2) Post-Study Work: This stream covers international students who graduate with a degree at a Bachelor, Masters or Doctorate level. You do not need to have an occupation on the SOL or obtain a skills assessment. This option is available for students who were granted their first student visa to Australia on or after November 5, 2011. Duration of this visa depends on your level of qualification and in some cases may last up to four years.
